Design lead for learning content design at
Rodan + Fields Turn It Up! Convention in Nashville, TN, September 2019.

Rodan + Fields puts on an annual Convention where up to 15,000 independent sales Consultants participate in immersive training and product launches, experience keynote speakers, dynamic activations, and much more. The theme for 2019 in Nashville was Turn It Up!, which played on the both the city’s and the Convention space’s musical roots.

Leading a small team, I was the design lead for all of the visual content for the three days of Breakout Sessions. Additionally, I oversaw the creation of digital signage in our Expo activation spaces. I worked extensively with the CD to ensure that the event theme and branding was present and consistent throughout our spaces – in presentation decks, communications, digital signage, etc.

I created a deck template that was delivered to the content owners. My team and I then worked extensively with these non-designers to bring each session to life by sourcing photos, creating graphics, diagrams, and helping to tell the presenter’s story visually.

In all, we helped develop over 67 decks, consisting of 1800+ slides on a variety of subject matter and styles.

Why it matters: R+F Consultants are the engine that keeps the company running, and learning experiences and trainings are necessary to their success and motivation. In a post-mortem survey, Breakouts scored as the second most highly rated area at Convention (second to the product launch).

Deck Template

Examples from a deck

The above template was designed to be flexible. For instance, the below deck was featured in a Breakout session, but we needed to pull in graphic elements that were part of a print brochure designed outside of this event experience. Therefore we needed a design that worked with the event branding and style, but which allowed us to operate with a more evergreen approach.

Digital Signage in the Expo

The Expo space at Convention provides attendees with the opportunity to interact with new products, participate in engaging activations, and experience bite-sized learning moments in a casual atmosphere. The digital signage appears at each activation area in the space (as well as some additional areas), and has multifaceted goals: wayfinding, agenda and times, informational (quizzes, processes for applications, etc), and fun set-ups for demos and activations to come.

See below for what this looked like in the space, followed by a few selections from screens that were developed for one of the new product areas.
